Merry Christmas everybody! After a short delay due to a holiday, the December wallpaper is now live. The wallpaper is based on a present, complete with wrapping paper, ribbon and tag.

The tiling pattern is actually based on the Koch Snowflake. It’s mathematical basis allows it to be tiled in a number of ways, which can be seen on this Wolfram Alpha page.

I’m really excited with the possibilities 2010 brings, so expect more wallpapers, blogs and other goodies still in the pipeline.

November 2009 Wallpaper

After a brief, one month absence the monthly wallpaper is back!

The November 2009 wallpaper is very minimalist, based on a simplistic pixel grid, inspired by the recently launched cleartypemedia.com. The font is the fantastic Vegur (Extra Light) Don’t worry if this isn’t your cup of tea—expect a festive theme for December!.

September 2009 Wallpaper

For September, I was inspired by the work of Andy Gilmore and created this months wallpaper around the geometric styling of his work.

For the colour scheme, I was looking for a wide spectrum of colours, but was initially looking for neon-like colours for a modern touch – but the cover of my Blade Runner DVD caught my eye, and so I sampled the yellows, blues, reds and oranges from that. Whilst overlaying black horizontal and vertical stripes it created a darker spectrum of colours, so I used brighter colours for the dates.

The font I chose is called Neighbourhood by Andy Chung.

I am very proud that Smashing Magazine chose my design again this month – see their extensive September 2009 wallpapers. As an exclusive for this site, I have created an iPhone specific wallpaper with no calendar:

August 2009 Wallpaper

My third wallpaper-of-the-month, and this time it has a Twitter theme. I have decided not to add a calendar to it (but if you object, please let me know, but it at least allows you to have the wallpaper for more than one month of the year)

In this design, I have used the classic Twitter colours of light blue and orange, whilst creating some simple cloud shapes, and the fonts are Caslon Pro for the main quote, and Chaparral Pro for the citation.

The wallpaper has a feint tiled brid graphic, and a little lens flare just behind the quote to add some focus.

I’ve just noticed this is another blue/orange combo, so I can assure you next month will be completely different!

July 2009 Wallpaper

This is my second monthly wallpaper, and this time it has been based around a Julius Caesar quote. After all, July was named after the Roman leader

This design uses the truly amazing Nevis font by Ed Merritt.

The quote I thought was quite apt; a fact I try to follow.

This wallpaper is a lighter colour than June, with a nice blue tone with bright orange accent colour (again!). I have also added a subtle grunge effect to give the wallpaper some texture.

I’ve again created the wallpaper in a number of sizes. Since purchasing my iPhone I think the next wallpaper will have an iPhone version available too. If you have any other formats you would like to see, please leave a comment and I will make sure to do so.

June 2009 Wallpaper

After getting inspiration from the Smashing Magazine Wallpapers, I decided to create my own.

This is primarily typography based, with the main being Bebas. I had originally wanted to use this font in a website with sIFR replacement but I found the spaces imbetween the words were too small.

I still liked the font however, and decided to use it as the basis for this wallpaper.

The wallpaper is based on a solid grid foundation, with a monochromatic design with orange highlights.

The wood effect is free from sxc.hu called Old Wood

The design was primarily for my work/home machine, but I created a few different sizes just incase anyone wanted to use it as their monthly wallpaper. The sizes are:

1280 x 1024
1440 x 900
1680 x 1050
1900 x 1200

Six High Resolution Cloud Images

Over the weekend, when we had some really nice weather, I was walking along with my camera and just stopped to take some quick images of the sky and clouds. I have selected the six best images, and zipped them up, for you to download and use as you like.

The images are 3072 x 2304px in size, and around 1.7mb each.

I have released these images under a Creative Commons license. This is the first time I have used one of these, and basically it allows you to use the images as you like, as long as you don’t try and sell the images on.
